Logs

Your logs should be well seasoned and if possible, kept completely dry.

Lighting your fire

When lighting your fire, make sure you build it up with plenty of kindling, fire lighters or paper.   This will ensure that a lot of initial heat is produced helping to warm your chimney and improve the draw and provides a good base for larger logs to burn on.

Safety

Always use a fire guard when you leave the room and try to allow the fire to burn down before leaving the house for a longer period of time. 

Always make sure that you have a working smoke and carbon monoxide detector
